The Artist
Ted Harasti is an Ontario-based Sacred Artist, Sculptor, Muralist and Iconographer specializing in Greek and Russian Byzantine style devotional icons.
Born in Toronto on March 20, 1943, he worked for 34 years as an elevator mechanic while at the same time co-owning and managing the Durham Ceramic Art studio in Ajax.
Man of faith, Ted always regarded his artistic talent as a marvellous God given gift intended for sacred ministry. As the artist himself explains: “Imaging the Word is a powerful means of ministering to God’s people and of evangelization. It is by this means that I feel I can utilize the precious gifts God has given me.”
The summer of 1974 marked a cornerstone in the artist’s inspirational journey. During a silent spiritual retreat in Manresa, Ted was blessed with a Marian vision. The Holy Mother appeared to him in a dream (locution) and walked him through the concept of an environmental sculpture he was to design and build. The Queen of the Holy Rosary Shrine project was born then, on that very summer night.
At the age of 35 Harasti could finally devote three years to his artistic calling and attended York University studying Fine Arts and co-registered in the Faculty of Education. He has since never ceased seeking and deepening his connection to the Sacred through art. He dedicated innumerable hours to the art of the “Gospel in light and colour” studied at the Prosopon School of Iconology under the Russian master Vladislav Andrejev. He also studied Greek iconography at the St. Vladimir Institute in Toronto under Alexei Mezentsev.
Currently working full-time in his Sacred Art Ministry, Ted is the artist and President of the Queen of The Holy Rosary Shrine project, the environmental sculpture that was revealed to him and constitutes his main lay apostolate mission. He creates Icons for veneration and fundraising purposes as well as restoration work and new Church Murals.

The vines grow out of and surround wheat sheaves ..."I am the Bread of Life".
The vine on the left is labelled "Logos" - The Word of God; the vine on the right is labelled Christ's Greek name "ICXC" (ΙϹ ΧϹ—a traditional abbreviation of the Greek words for "Jesus Christ")."> The Holy Spirit dove at the top grasps the two vines in it's beak and the vines are transformed into the Keys of the Kingdom.
